Here are links to the pictures of my homemade longbow. Larry and 3dChamp have seen the pictures already and maybe some others. I wanted to build a little different longbow that had some mass weight and was cut past center. The riser is made of 4 pieces of welded steel, with bondo to smooth it out. The limbs are 3 lams of action wood with brown glass on the back and clear on the belly. I have since made the grip much smaller. It came out #50@28 (I pull 27") and have taken 2 deer with it so far. Using a 450 string and a low brace height, on both deer got complete pass thrus with the arrow sticking in the ground on the other side. Got it made last june and did quite well with it at the 3D shoots. It has an elevated narrow shelf on it and I was able to get some arrows to shoot out of it clean with vanes. It is an R/D longbow with equal working limbs and the shelf 1.25" above center. It is a shooter.

Let me know if the links work...I am not sure how to post pictures on here yet

No offense, but it looks like some sort of Mad Max / post-apocalyptic bow with that metal riser! :) I wish I could fabricate things like that.

Just took some imagination, some Iowa ingenuity and some help from a good friend. I found a place that can paint about anything to look like wood, guess the metal riser is going to be cocabonium :)

Nice one Hank. It looks like it means business - got a solid purposeful, almost intimidating, air to it - but I'll stick to my prettier Border bow! I too wish I could make things that work but technical subjects were always my weak point. Congrats on the deer. How heavy is it?

Technical? lol I just guessed on some of it. The limb shape was done by what I thought looked good. Used a piece of plastic edging to form the curve. The tapers in the lams were figured by old master crafters, along with the glass thickness. Its 64" long and the mass weight is a little more than a Black Widow recurve, it definately has some heft to it. There are 2 pieces of steel for the vertical part of the riser. I lapped them in the grip area to offset the top piece to have it cut past center. This created more weight in the lower part of the bow which gives it great balance in the hand. I shoot with guys that shoot alot heavier longbows than I do and they can't believe how fast mine is for being #47.

Looks like it has a nice solid feel to it -- I bet it is smoother than the average longbow:)
