I decided that as long as my trigger is a visual one (that is, the release occurs when the sight picture looks perfect), I would never improve.
So, with some coaching, I started exploring the methods of Kisik Lee.
My goal -- add a method of releasing that STARTS when the sight picture looks perfect.
The way to that: a back tension release.
A few learnings: Kisik's favored back tension uses the lower back. You cannot even feel these muscles unless you keep your drawing shoulder down. I have a high draw, which raises the drawing shoulder up -- and, even at full draw, that drawing shoulder never goes fully down.
So -- first goal -- find a way to get that drawing shoulder down.
2nd goal -- once down, squeeze the lower end of the scapula towards the spine, allowing the upper end to move away from the spine.
it is possible to practice these separately. Although it felt about as easy as learning to wriggle my ears (which I can't do), I can now do the second. However, I am wrestling with the first one, which is necessary to put me in position to execute the second.
Would like to be able to consistently do the first by the time outdoor season starts here -- in a month.
