Frangilli says, in The Heretic Archer that push and pull is ideal but very hard to do consistantly. Since consistancy is fundamental to good shooting he suggests that pushing with the bow hand/arm that last millimeter to clear the clicker (FITA shooting) is more consistant than "pulling through". Even as a Barebow shooter (without a clicker) I find his recommendation is very legit.
For me it feels as though I am "pushing" the string out of my fingers with the bow hand/arm. This is more of a feeling than a gross action that can be actually seen.

Same here. I really like Vittorio's book and think that it cross's over to barebow better than most books I have read. For me the concentration on the push is very natural and seems to result in a more consistent release. Basically as close to a surprise release as I can come with fingers.
As described above working with bands first really helped me to get the feel of the style before trying with the bow.

I tried the "just squeeze the shoulder blades together" way and I injured my drawing shoulder somehow...if thats the right way then I must have did something wrong...but I did get that hand flying back release like Rod jenkins...my shoulder is better now but I gave up on that method and just use vipers method...I try to think of it more or less as pulling the arrow to "on target" if that makes sense
