Stickbow Target Archery Forums

I just want to introduce myself and hopefully glean some good info from you guys(and gals). I've just been having a ball since I gave up my training wheels. I'm getting into building longbows and hopefully hunting with them next year. I shot target since '79 and was NFAA certified as a coach in 1990. Yes it was all with compound bows. I'm trying to learn to shoot instictively (not gapping), once in a while it all happens like it should. Right now I have a yew self bow I found in a 2nd hand store. I made a string and shot it quite a bit before I started getting curious about it. Glen St Charles' son said that was probably built in the 40's. I was lucky it held up without rebreaking it in I guess. I also built a bamboo backed Ipe longbow. Both pull 50lb @28" The Ipe bow is much more pleasant to shoot and seems to be pretty fast. I never was into speed in bows but rather forgiveness. Well anyway I'm like a kid in a candy store so if I ask some dumb questions in my attempt to bridge the gap, try to understand. I know alot about archery but most humbly will accept any info about longbows.

Sounds like you'll be giving as much as getting as far as shooting info goes.
