If I may ask, I would like to know some specifics on currently used bows in competitions (I am looking to order a new custom made bow). In general, what bow weights do you use for target competion (hybrid longow or recurve, please state)? Could you please give me examples of the bows or bowyers that fit that criteria?
I would like to find one bow (for now, lol) that meets standards and that I can learn/adjust to so that I can possibly enter competitions one day
I kow this is probably a very newbie question, but I am still growing in this obsession, lol!n
Thanks!

Well, a big question is going to be "which competition?"n
Recurve or longbow? With or without sights and other goodies?n
NFAA, NAA, IFAA, IBO, FITA, club shoots?n
3d, indoor target, field archery, Olympic recurve?n
You'll need a range of answers because there is a range of competition and competitors.
What kind of archery do you want to compete in?

I shoot "barebow recurve", "bowhunter recurve", and "traditional". My favorite competition is field archery, where the longest shot is 80 yards. I also shoot FITA-like competitions where the longest distance is sometimes 60 yards and sometimes 60 meters. A 40-lb bow does very nicely at those distances -- it is heavy enough to compete, and light enough that you can practice for hours.
I have had two custom bows made, both of them 40 lbs, both of them are beautiful and a joy to shoot, and would recommend both bowyers: Bob Lee in Texas, and Border Archery in Scotland.

I have never heard of these (hex shaft laminated with glue) being challenged. The are good, well respected arrows.

Gawd a'mighty, it's hard enuf to have to stay competitive without having to constantly deal with the damn stupid org stickbow rules.

In answer to the original question, I shoot a 40# recurve indoors for a Vegas style league and NFAA 300 rounds. I shoot a 41# recurve for both NFAA and FITA Field. I have a 42# recurve for FITA target (out to 90m). All of these are aluminum risers with ILF limbs.

IMO, the best thing you can do is to observe and chat with yer local shooters - go to clubs, attend tourneys, see what bows and tackle the top archers are playing with and that will clue you into what type of bow and arras will be at least local rules legal.
