Finished the Tollgate Indoor shoot yesterday. I shot 3 rounds. My 1st yielded a measley 214 out of 300. My next two ended up the same at 244....which happened to be the score that I won 1st with last year.
This year those scores only got me 6th and 7th, but the prizes at those places were awesome: I left with 2 dozen A/C/C arrows which go for about 150-200 dollars a dozen!
Anyway, I found it very interesting that the guy who took 1st and 2nd did so with a DAS kinetic recurve with stabilizer, flipper rest and plunger. By itself, that doesn't say much, until you realize that the same guy also shot 2 rounds with a longbow and he failed to score in the top 20 either time.
I was just stunned that there could be such a difference in score simply due to the equipment being used. Funny how that fancy equipment can compensate for form flaws.

I dunno, Dave. I wouldn't have said that about his form if I hadn't seen for myself that he was doing some things wrong.
Also, if I had the option for more fine tuning on my longbow, I honestly don't know what I would change. The arrows are tuned as good as I can shoot them, and when my aim and form are perfect they hit where they are supposed to, so I'm not sure how fine tuning would change things. But I admit I am mostly ignorant of recurves and their setups.

Todd one thing you probably did not notice.Mike was shooting a osage selfbow that he made when he was shooting the longbow.Mike is just one of those natural shooters who makes it look easy.
You will most likly never see me again at that shoot unless I VISIT TO feed my face and shoot the bull - take care Ray.
Note Mike is an avid shooter who holds his own against compound guys in the winter leagues,so calling him a natural is a little kleshay I guess. - -practice makes perfect accept in my case (LOL).

My club has a field range, 28 targets, so that is mostly what I shoot. My longbow is a 21st Century Edge, a top performer, and I use very good wooden arrows with it. Shooting with the same style I can score about 15% higher with the Olympic recurve. My guess is that half of that is the arrows and half is the stability that greater mass gives. The longbow reacts to every twitch and wiggle and the recurve may not. - lbg
