I'll bring this thread up again because I have been shooting split fingers and started to develop a corn on my finger. So I got out an old Saunders Pak Tab, stripped it down and trimmed the leather backing. It is very easy on the fingers and has a slick plastic face for a smooth release. It will not take a grooved set.
I know Bender is trying split fingers and looking for a tab to suit.
The Saunders is modular, it has various components, plastic, leather and rubber, and screws together with brass screws. So it can be customized to meet your needs. Cheap and seems likely to last forever. - lbg

Thank you lbg! I will look at the Saunders. In the meantime I may have some "donated" cordovan arriving in a few days. My wife is taking up shooting left handed because of a neck/shoulder injury. We're starting at ground zero and we're working with a tab. It seems to help her feel and maintain an anchor.

Back in the 50's, a good friend and long time archer invented the Abbe Tab.
The working face of the tab was cordovan (horse hide) with a backing of extremely flyweight latigo leather that overlapped at the arrow nock cutout, thus protecting your index and middle fingers from chafing.
A superb design that worked so well that you still felt the arrow nock but without the associated pain. I'll see if I can find that tab and shoot some pix,
