Post subject: | Pretty Interesting Shoot |
My daughter and I recently joined the SCA because of the many interesting target shoots they have. The other week we went to a tournament and we started out with a 150yd clout shoot, a progressive distance time shoot and then a 30yd "castle window" shoot. The clout shoot had a target of an "armored warrior" in the middle of a 10 yard circle two points for a hit on the target one point for a hit in the circle. The progressive shoot was a gopher placed at 30yd after you hit that target you moved to the next gopher at 40yds and then to a larger target at 50yds you had 45 seconds a point for each hit. The "castle window" was the backstop 30yds out with a "Z" like red line out lined in silver duct tape one point for the silver two for the red. It was pretty challenging and a lot of fun-neither my daughter or I had ever shot over 100yds. Kind of fun to play "dress up" and shoot the bow, and as a thumb draw shooter I didn't have to worry about the "rules". |

It was a lot of fun. It was interesting to see some of these guys and gals shoot at the long ranges-you can tell that they are used to the type of archery. What makes it cool is many had selfbows or in my case a horn composite and all had wood arrows so not only were people dressed in "old fashioned" clothes the tackle made the tournament feel like you were in a little time machine. Like you say it was a blast. |
