Sounds like a "frozen shoulder". I've had one for years, still have it. It's annoying, surgery is never advised, and I've totaled many many months in rehab (which overall, has been effective but not a cure). At best, I can keep it under a sort of checked control. I must be VERY careful loading that shoulder with any form of work effort. I must be VERY careful extending the shoulder without a load (such as working a mouse or keyboard typing).
YES, you MUST change the way you draw and hold, else you will make matters MUCH worse. Been there, done that, hated it.
Over the last 4 months I've had weekly massage therapy to work out shoulder and neck trigger points - this has helped IMMENSELY and I'd highly recommend seeing a competent massage therapist. It's interesting to see how removing a trigger point deep on the right side of my neck has eased off the shoulder pain.
I still shoot daily, but very carefully - shooting a bow is actually part of the therapy, to strengthen the shoulder and surround muscles and tissue. It works. It's all not as fun as 30 or even 10 years ago. Such is aging ... but at least I'm still pulling a string, bending a stick, and watching the feathers fly ...
