Rudderbows/Ridge Bows Silver Fox Longbow RH, 66", 45.7# @ 28" and 48.4# @ 29" Time to move this good longbow on to someone else. I've spun up a 12 strand B55 Dacron string and added a Velcro rug shelf and thin leather side plate. $150 shipped in the con USA My review ......... Rudderbows / Ridge Bows "Silver Fox" longbow. An interesting longbow that combines a single solid limb core of African red jatoba sandwiched 'tween black or brown glass, with a cap of jatoba added to build up the riser/handle belly. The limb design is essentially straight, with just a hair of deflex, while the limb tips show a fair amount of reflex flip right at the tips. The one length offered is fixed at 66" and it can be ordered out in 5# weight ranges of 35-30# thru 65-70#. The price tag is $199 + shipping. I ordered and received this right hand longbow with black glass in the 40-45# @ 29" weight range. It just arrived today, 2 weeks later. With a 6-1/2" brace height, my Easton digital scale reads 45.7# @ 28" and 48.4# @ my 29" draw length. The very slim and comfortable handle is dead straight, blending into a crowned and radiused arrow shelf that appears to be cut right on the bow's center. There are no limb tip overlays, which signal that this bow should only be braced with a dacron string. No arrow shelf or plate material is provided and in a pinch a layer of tape would do just fine. The supplied Flemish string is a hefty 'n' heavy, highly waxed 16 strand twin ply cord of what appears to be dacron. No nocking point is provided, and neither is a center serving for the string. A very nice 3 Rivers bow stringer is included. The suggested brace height is 6" to 7". This bow is very well made - well sealed and smooth finished wood ... with clean and straight satin black glass. The wood and glass flow together nicely, very aesthetically pleasing, very comfortable in the handle, well balanced and just feels Good. I have no doubt this bow will find good use on the hunt. I shot a bunch of 540 thru 575 grain woodies through the bow and it performed quite nicely out to 15 yards. The big string hummed and there was a tad of a bump from the bow as the arrow cleared the riser. A 10 or 12 strand dacron string will no doubt improve performance noticeably. All in all, a very good American crafted longbow at a very low price tag. |
