Just thought I would pass on my experience with the Hips foam targets.

When I wanted to learn to shoot at longer distances I needed a large target to catch those "errant" shots. I looked into the Whitetail target because they are so well known and seem to hold up to a great deal of use. Found out they cost as much to ship as to buy.

A local JOAD group told me about the Hips foam targets which they had started using. Found their web site at:

and bought one of the heavy duty 48" targets. I special ordered one with an 18" replacable center core and four 12" replacable cores at each corner. It has held up for I don't know how many arrows (several sessions a week) and only now (after about a year) am I considering replacing the center core. It still stops my ACCs and aluminum shafts but my skinny Easton Navigators will go through to the wall behind in the middle 4" or so.

This target comes with it's own stand made of the same material, although I eventually built a wood stand to hold it higher off the ground. It is light enough to easily move from my shop where I store it to the yard/patio where I shoot. It came shipped (truck) from Texas to Arizona for under $300.

If you have use for a large target (bale) I can highly recommend this one.

Thanks for the tip. In my quest for the perfect target, I had not come across these. Looks like their 2006 model was designed after your special request (modular replaceables).

My experience has been that they are willing to work with you if you have a special request or need. I've been more than impressed so far. That's why I posted the info.

Update to this old thread. They have a new web address, it is now:

I replaced the five centers on my bale and they have a denser foam now that should last longer than the '06 vintage. They are still nice folks to do business with.
