Oh no, Art! Not "The Tube" rule again!!?? :D
As I see it, the "Spirit of the Longbow" should be "a braced bow with a continuous curve to the limbs". You can easily portray that definition with a mild r/d longbow, and some bowyers have perfected the "aggressive r/d stealth" longbow.
QUESTION: Is it "in the spirit of the longbow" that straight/forward-set limbed longbows compete with either mild r/d or aggressive/stealth r/d longbows?n
Isn't this pretty much the at heart of the IFAA longbow gear rules controversy?

In my opinion, Yes! You are exactly right.
One simple rule change can clear all of it up.
The "TUBE" works. I am not entending to be anal about it...but, it takes care of the tom foolery.

I have a simple longbow...great shooter. And, I have an Adcock...also a great shooter. I took arrows that a spinned correctly for both.

Shooting the Adcock at 45 yards I could keep the tip of the arrow at 6 o'clock on the dot and be there. The other bow I was already above the center. At fifty yards I was shooting the adcock dead underneith the center. At 60 I was just starting to get over the center of the target. I was off the target with the other bow. Now tell me the stealth R/D bows do not have an advantage that is measurable.

Again I refer to Robs definition of the "spirit" of the longbow. Folks will fight it because they don't want to give up their advantage. I can't blam them. But, they can't argue about the spirit of the longbow either. :o

I believe its the archers choice as to what he/she is willing to compete with.
This is in keeping with that their bow and other competiting bows meet the "spirit of the longbow, a braced bow with a continous curve to the limb tips".

There is nothing prohibiting what is considered a lower technology bow from winning, thats in the skill level of the archer. As I stated before its great to have a high performance bow, but if you can't control and shoot that bow accurately the advantage is wasted.

On 3/31/04, I sent an email to Walter Rueger, IFAA Chairman Technical Committee, stating the following ...

"Hello Mr. Rueger,n
I'm hoping that you are the correct IFAA official/officer to receive this email - if not, I'm sorry to trouble you and would you please forward this note on to the proper IFAA person.

You may find this Stickbow Target Archery Forum (STAF) topic thread "New Longbow rules at IFAA" of interest ...

n
There have been *many* topic threads at STAF about the IFAA longbow rules (just do a search for "IFAA") - their ambiguity, and the confusion and misunderstandings that have followed. In the best interests of target archery, and the IFAA, the Longbow Rules need some serious clarifying, if not rewriting. Competitors are concerned about how these rules are going to affect their competing.
Please reply either directly to this email or by posting a reply at STAF.

Much obliged
Rob DiStefanon Park Ridge, NJ"n
As expected, no answer yet.

I'm drafting a new email to all the officers of the IFAA, once again addressing the IFAA Longbow Division rules. I'll post it here at STAF.
