I shoot with feathers, and have been using the FOC calculator below to help me setup my arrows. My best-flying arrows are 9% FOC, so when I go to a new shaft, I look for a combination of components that will give me that FOC. So far, it has worked.
My puzzle -- I am thinking of fletching with vanes instead of feathers. The FOC calculator tells me that simply switching from feathers to vanes will lower the FOC by several percent. Thus, I will need a much heavier point to give me the 9% that I want. Can this be correct?n

AC, when you figure there about 17grs difference in weight between three, 3 7/8" vanes and 4" feathers, it figures. You'd probably have to increase point weight by 20grs to compensate for the change in FOC, plus now your arrow is 37grs heavier and the spine is stiffened by adding nock weight, altho offset somewhat by increasing point weight. Wheweee! Makes my head hurt.

Mojo, that's a clever idea. I'd have never thought of that. It would allow a person to use much lighter point weights and achieve the same FOC. Cool!
