I am about to make about 20 strings for my bows, & I have a question. What is the general concensus on using PTFE tape (as used by plumbers etc.)for the end loops of a string? I have a friend who uses it on a regular basis, & will not use anything else, I have often wandered if there is an advantage with this method, as the loops feel softer, or is it a cost cutting exercise? Any input would be appreciated.

Unless there's more to this material/process, IMO, Teflon pipe fitting tape just isn't durable enuf (friction, wear) as a protective shield for string loops. The best serving material I've found - for string loops and center serving - is Halo Spectra ().

Rob, thanks for that, looks as though I'm going shopping. The bows in question are Ragim trainer bows ranging from 54"-68" 14lbs-20lbs & they are used for "Have-a-Go" archery as well as beginner's course work. Most of the bows are used every week-end & tuesdays, maybe more than the average archer's usage.
