Good idea about not shooting the old bow - at least until you'd have a good bowyer look it all over.
Hmm, some compromises will need to be made in order to have one barebow that will "do it all", from popping targets to killing medium size game. 45# at your draw length would allow you to shoot lots of arrows at paper and 3D marks, and have enuf punch at reasonable deer hunting distances of 10 to 15 yards.
IMO, the biggest issue might be bow length - longer for targets/roving (66" or more) and shorter for hunting (particularly from tree stands - 60" or less).
I think you'd best be served by a recurve or a hybrid longbow. Used bows can be a great way go, but it will be a bit hard to find one in the 45# range.
I don't think you could go wrong with any of the following new bows as my subjective opinion ...
Martin X200 - 60" (about $200)n Martin Hunter - 62" - (about $310)n Checkmate Falcon - 60" or 64" - (about $200)n
Having had all three of the above, I'd definitely prefer the Falcon in 64".
As always, YMMV!
