I also shoot a 40-lb recurve and have the same drawlength as you. I shoot 30.5 inch 2016s with 100-grain points and 4-inch feathers, and they fly great!
You want the arrow a bit longer than your draw length, which would put them out around 30 inches. If you look up a 30-inch 2016 on the spine chart, you'll see they are recommended for a 35-40 bow.

It has been my experience, confirmed by many others, that the Easton spine charts are a bit stiff -- all of my bows shoot best with an arrow 5 bows less than what the spine charts recommend.

As I alluded to, and Kitsap very well defined, woodies are the most difficult arrows to build, shoot, and care for - and really really good ones cost lots and lots of dollars. Feather fletched alums would be a better choice. And don't overlook glass shafts, too! :thumbsup:

Some really good advise here. Reallllly gooood wooden arrows are alot of work to make. I find myself shooting alums alot more as they are so consistant. Just the equipment to make wooden arrows cost a small fortune.
