I hear that:
FOC doesn't matter indoors
the best FITA archers are up around 20
Jim Despart (a fine compound field archer who once was part of my foursome and who thoroughly impressed me by hitting the spot every time but one) shoots an FOC greater than 12.
That sure leaves me a lot to choose from.
So my question: What is your favorite FOC for field archery, given that you are shooting recurves or longbows?

FOC is one of those contributing factors which help a good archer shoot better. Those of us who are average may not benefit from optimizing any of these factors. I try to use all the aids I can in hopes that my shooting will improve overall.
That said, I believe that the proper FOC for FITA shooting is 15-20% because of the wind factor and for indoor or field shooting is 8-15%. Indoors the lower 8% is OK and for field I would prefer 10+/- %. Anything higher will be excess weight and slow the arrow down.
This experience is based on recurve shooting and not for compounds. My guess is that compound archers also use a high FOC of FITA shooting.
